“Death city”:

geirnustaddeathcity 1 instalation project with exhibition

is an eye- witness view, passing by a scene; you don’t know what have happened. You see the aftereffect of a destructive action.  The object becomes the totality of the howl scene.  The objects are communicating, interacting and shaping each other. The glass burns the wood, the wood shapes the glass. The liquidity of the glass shaped by the wood takes the shapes and solidifies. Leaving the witness to enjoy a “frozen second” as the world keeps burning.
This is a place specific installation, in the sense that I will build it up and fit it to the space. I will never build it up two times as the exact same, but let the room and materials communicate for the best image.

Global Glass, Passing on Knowledge’

The title ‘Global Glass, Passing on Knowledge’ is how I feel when I look at my brief life in the glass
and art world, the passing on knowledge and inspiration from master to student. How it have taken
me from the north of Norway, to the deep forests of Sweden learning the craft from the greatest masters,
travelling, working in studios. This brought me to Amsterdam to the Gerrit Rietveld Academie
where I have had the pleasure to work with and be guided by some great teachers who are supporting
and pushing you. So as the world becomes smaller and the knowledge becomes greater, I am wondering
where it will take us next…

‘Who am I?’

In this piece I am reflecting on the changing in shape. How have we become the one that we are, are
we moulded by society, are we unique creatures that are free in the choice of what to do, or are we just
tools to be used as it fits ‘the masters’. I have blown heads, that are moulded after my own face, that
changes from the first, a sculptural head to lose more and more the facial features to become a clean
charaf in the end. The colours will also change with the form and function, from a light white colour
to gray.

The works selected for the exhibition in the Tomas Bata University in Zlín,

Geir Nustad is combining his experience as a craftsman, being trained in Kosta Glass center (Scandinavia’s most renowned Glass School), with new and refreshing ideas on how we experience Society.  In his installation ‘who am I?’, he reflects on the changing in shape. How have we become the one that we are, are we moulded by society, are we unique creatures that are free in the choice of what to do, or are we just tools to be used as it fits “the masters”.   He has blown heads, that are molded after his own face,  that changes from the first a sculptural head to losing more and more of the facial features to become a clean charaf in the end.  The colors will also change whit the form and function, from a light whit like colour to gray.  He chose to make the change in color to make the change in shape stronger.

Oude kerk 2011, exhibition opening Friday 21.01 Amsterdam

The works selected for the exhibition in the Oude Kerk. Geir Nustad developed a new visual language in the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, combining his experience as a craftsman, being trained in Kosta Glass center (Scandinavia’s most renowned Glass School), with new and refreshing ideas on how we experience Society. In his installation ‘Burned City’, he reflects on how we have come from a hunter -, collector society to a modern consumer society, surrounded by mass production. He created an abstract city, combining burned wood and several glass houses. He chose to burn the wood to make the contrast in the change in society stronger, the way we pollute the planet and poison our self. Several houses are made in the grail technique with petro glyphs (cave-inspired drawings) while others remain in clear or colored glass.
